Villa de Leyva is a city located in the Boyacá Department. It was founded as Villa de Santa María de Leyva in 1572, and it is known for the preservation of its historical heritage from the colonial era, as well for the archeological remains that date to the prehistoric times.Specialists have concluded that the area was originally a primordial sea in the Cretacic era which was inhabited by several species of dinosaurs.
