Riohacha is a city located at the shores of the Caribbean sea. It was founded in 1535 by the german Nikolaus Frederman and became a settlement dedicated to the extraction of pearls. Due to its strategic position it suffered several tragedies, such as a raid by british corsair Francis Drake during the XVIIIth century and then a fire provoked by the patriotic army after the sea battle of Laguna Salá.
