About Fresno

Fresno is a city located in the Department of Tolima. It was founded in 1574 with the name Santagueda de Calí by Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada, as a stronghold to better ward off the native Palenques. This establishment remained rather small, but started receiving an important amount of immigrants... since 1859, which in turn founded a town named Mosquesada, although in 1857 the name was changed to Fresno (Ash Tree), due to the amount of ash trees in the area, which are now scarce.Nowadays Fresno is mainly known for its avocado, coffee and sugar production, as well as its farming industry.
