About Cañasgordas
The Colombian municipality of Cañasgordas is located in the Antioquia department and long time ago it was settled by the catio Indians who were dedicated to fishing and hunting; in 1782 it was recognized as a parish due to the growth that the city had achieved and 41 years later Cañasgordas was declared municipality. The name of the city comes from the large American bamboo crops that the Spanish saw, who said there were very fat canes (cañas gordas in Spanish). Among the main tourist attractions to admire you have the Iglesia Santuario del Santo Cristo, of Romanesque style and with huge cupolas, where the Saint Christ is guarded and he has several miracles attributed, the Juan Pablo II Park, the chapel of La Sagrada Familia with busts of Bolivar and Santander, the ecologic trail Caciq...ue Imantago that allows to see a great diversity of flora and fauna of the region, among others. In the morning you can have your breakfast with the classical calentao antioqueño or if you wish something light tamales or empanadas are tasty too; for lunch you can eat sancocho de gallina (typical soup of Colombia), or frijoles con pezuña, which include fat and for dessert you can have arequipe paisa con brevas o piononos.
