    About Sincelejo

    Colombian municipality, capital of the department of Sucre. It’s located in the northwestern part of the country, in the Colombian Caribbean Region. Sincelejo was re-founded by the captain and engineer Antonio de la Torre y Miranda, by order of the governor of Cartagena, Juan de Torrezar Diaz Pimienta. The first establishment of the population was realized on the space occupied by the Zenu natives. In the nineteenth century, the demography and economy of Sincelejo grew due to the cultivation of sugar cane and the manufacture of liquor. In 1851, due to this growth, it was positioned as the capital of one of the provinces created in the Federal State of Bolivar, with a liberal profile.
